John Wilkes Booth was born May 10, 1838, on his parent’s farm in Bel Air Maryland. His parents, Junius Booth and Mary Ann Holmes, lived together out of wedlock, and had ten children. They were British and moved to the United States in 1821 where besides the farm in Bel Air, where they had slaves, they owned a home in Baltimore that they visited during the winter months. John Wilkes Booth was a well-known actor who performed the lead in many of Shakespeare’s plays throughout the country and always expressed a great desire to be someday being very famous, according to his sister Asia.
