Grant who recently was the replacement for Rosencrans before Chattanooga, was given the position of Lieutenant General; last held by George Washington. After great military success in the west, Ulysses S.Grant was placed in position to save the Union and lead her to victory. "I'm Afraid there going to keep making these changes till they get someone I don't understand", exclaimed Lee after hearing of another Union General being replaced.
