“Racial profiling occurs when the police target someone for investigation on the basis of that person’s race, national origin or ethnicity.” (Crockett 2002:1). This problem is prevalent among blacks in American society today. Racial profiling encourages suspicion, polarizing antagonism, and typically leads to the targeting of the racial group for punitive action. Civil rights were intended to make everyone equal in the United States, but racial prejudice is still reflected in the criminal justice system today. Far too many U.S. citizens are being pulled over and often arrested just for being black.
