Jean Ribaut

Jean Ribaut was born in France in 1520. He was either the son of members of the reformed faith or a convert thereto. He died on October 12, 1565. While alive he was a skillful sailor and a Naval Captain on Admiral Coligny. He was well known by English people during the years of 1546-47 he spent the winter in London. Ribaut was the commander when the French took Calais during the action he was over transport and supplies. The next year he was sent to Scotland to control the French's interest there, he was very successful. In 1562 he planted a colony in the New World.
Ribaut was chosen to lead the expedition to find a new France, which was on the coast of Florida. With 3 vessels and 150 colonists he set sail. He then sailed north
