Scott Joplin and the History of Ragtime Music

Scott Joplin was a major influence on music and its future. He opened doors for young men at his time, and for young people in the later 1900’s. Many types of music are now exsistant only because of Scott Joplin. Joplin was born in the northeast region of Texas between June 1886, and mid January 1868. Joplin had lived in Sedalia, Missouri for most of his childhood. This town had special meaning to him and was where he composed a lot of his material and ideas. His family left the farm where his father who was a slave had worked for labor. They then moved to Texarkana, which is on the border of Texas and Arkansas. They lived on both sides of the border.
