Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson was born to a family of slavery in Cairo, Georgia. When Jackie grew older he excelled in sports such as, football, basketball, baseball, and track. Jackie became great in baseball and became the first African American to America’s favorite pastime play ball. By doing this, he paved roads for many African Americans Athletes in the years to come. Robinson joined the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League in 1945 for a reported $400 a month. Although he soon became one of the league's top players, he was not fond of the low pay and relentless traveling and apparently had no intention of making baseball a career.
