Heart of Darkness is the epic and intriguing tale of Marlow, a sailor, who describes to his shipmates his amazing experience of traveling upriver into the Congo. He was hired by a continental trading company as a steamboat captain. Marlow’s mission was to visit and retrieve Kurtz. Kurtz was an extraordinary agent who had lost contact and fallen ill. Marlow explains how most of the trip was dreamlike; it was as if he wasn’t really there. The trip was several months long before finally arriving at Kurt’s outpost.
