Moses Mendelssohn was a leader in the enlightenment and was the father of
Reform Judaism. Although he was not directly responsible for the creation of
Reform Judaism he was indirectly responsible because his followers eventually
led to the creation of Reform Judaism. Reform Judaism started in the nineteenth
century in Europe. The European enlightenment made Jews challenge their
traditions and adjust to a non-Jewish society. Moses Mendelssohn provoked the
