Different and indescribable mental illnesses are taking their toll in American citizens. One of the most common illnesses today is schizophrenia. The word schizo is derived from the Greek meaning "split" and phrenia meaning "mind"(Walsh 42). Schizophrenia is a severe disorder characterized by delusions, inappropriate emotional responses, disorganized thinking, hallucinations, and deteriorated social functioning (39). This illness may include withdrawal from reality, abnormal behavior, and a gross inability to communicate with others (Schizophrenia 1670).
