Rabbit, Run, by John Updike is a novel about the life of Rabbit Angstrom, a man who is coming to grips with reaching his adulthood. He is unwilling to let go of his youth and incapable of accepting the responsibilities that come with adulthood. Rabbit struggles with aging, religion, sexuality in particular, his own issues with individual freedom and attachment, and rebellion and conformity. In high school Rabbit was a basketball star, he felt that inflated omnipotent feeling that made him feel like he could accomplish anything and that he was unlike anyone else, because of his exceptional promise and potential.
