Nationalism This fictional story was based on the reality of life in Germany during WWI. This movie portrayed the environment very realistically. The German people’s attitudes were expressed clearly in the film, one very strong attitude was that of Nationalism. Nationalism was expressed a lot throughout this film, nationalism was first expressed in the males classroom. The teacher had strong nationalistic beliefs which he pressed on the students by pressuring them to enlist to fight for their country. Most of the boys complied and had rather nationalistic beliefs themselfs, while others believed that their futures were not in the army, nonetheless all the boys enlisted and were shipped to the western front to fight for their nation.
