Have you ever wondered how your hand knows to drop a hot pan when you pick it up, or knows what temperature the water is while drawing a bath? Any time one of your five senses is used, or you move or talk, your nervous system is communicating using neurons. Neurons are the building blocks of all brain activity.
A neuron is defined as “any of the impulse-conducting cells that constitute the brain, spinal column, and nerves, consisting of a nucleated cell body with one or more dendrites and a single axon.” The nucleus is the brain of the neuron, and the dendrites are the appendages.
