The existence of God is that attack of Hume on the “certainties” of Platonic Christianity that I choose to write this paper on.
Platonic/Christian philosophers and Hume had slightly differing ideas on how knowledge is obtained. Cause and effect was a key idea in both of their systems of obtaining knowledge. The Platonic/Christian view was that you could know the essence of something. For instance gold: Given the essence if gold (cause) it is malleable (effect). They say that is universally true, any and all gold is malleable. They also say that it is necessarily true- given the nature and essence of gold it has to be malleable. They said that you could know that the future is like the past.
