Linus Pauling was born on February 28,1901 in Portland, Oregon. His family lived at the very edge of poverty. His father was part pharmacist and part “medicine man” and wasn’t particularly good at either. When Linus was four, the family moved to his mother’s hometown of Condon to get financial aid from her family. In Condon, his father took over the town drugstore and Linus began to explore the physical world around him.
