Adam Smith is a very interesting figure and considered the father of the capitalist system, the one in place in America today. He was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in 1723. Kirkcaldy was a small town, with some of the residents still using nails as currency. His father died before he was born, so his other relatives raised him. At the age of four, Adam Smith was kidnapped by a band of gypsies passing through town. His uncle tracked and pursued the gypsies, and while they were escaping, they left Adam Smith behind. Smith was absent minded, but also a very bright pupil. At the age of seventeen, Adam went to Oxford on a scholarship and graduated six years later.
