Too many accidents occur on family farms every year. Questions are asked and answers are given, but do farmers actually listen to the solutions given to fix this problem? Many experts work hard to make today’s farm a safer place for everyone. But do the farmers actually want all these safety precautions? Because farmers do not follow proper safety procedures, excessive numbers of accidents occur on farms every year.
A study done by The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) identified 175 fatal injuries in Tennessee agriculture in the 1980’s. Tennessee farmers and their families suffered more than 2,351 nonfatal injuries in 1993. These resulted in a disabling injury rate of 4.6 injuries per 100 full-time workers
