What is neo soul

The musical genre known as "Neo soul" evolved from a mixture of gospel, jazz, hip-hop,and classic rythm and blues music. It is a unique musical form in which attained recognition in the middle to late 1990's. It simply defines artists who combine a respect for and understanding of classic soul of the 1960's and 1970's with 1990's experimentation and boundary crossing. In the late 1980's to early 1990's, the New Jack Swing movement generated many artists with similar styles, and grooves. Neo soul differ from other genres in one major way, that is each artist is also a talented musician and many do not rely on such technical sounds such as beat machine, instead they rely on more traditional forms of sounds like a Rhodes
