In Michael Parenti’s book, entitled Democracy for the Few (Sixth Edition), the author’s main point is that “our government often represents the privileged few rather than the needy masses” (Parenti 2). The government is made up primarily of the wealthy, who can afford to make decisions based on their own interests. These people can afford to do so because they have the funds to spend on what they think is important. Money is what makes America so powerful and this wrongfully extends into the governing body. This is a prime example of the corresponding relationship between wealth and power in this country, the United States of America. Thus the government often represents the priveleged, wealthy few, rather than the needy many.
