Our society faces many social and economical issues today and with the books Heart of Aztlan and Zia Summer , the author Rudolfo Anaya writes and states many situations in how it could be portrayed in both the past and present with the Latino and Chicano culture. In both novels Anaya portrays the importance of family relationships and also some subtle sociological perspectives that deals with gender roles, mainly with women. Although both novels are fictional, Anaya orchestrates some very realistic factors that deal with women in the 1950's as well as in the 1990's.
