Many great scholars have contributed to the religious theory of evolution. E.B. Tylor and James Frazer greatly contributed to the cultural evolutionary theory of religion. E.B. Tylor, a self-educated Englishman developed the theory of animism, which he believed held the key to the origin of religion. James George Frazer was an educated Scotsman who, in contrast to Tylor, spent most of his life in his library-like apartment at Cambridge University. Frazer, who was a follower of Tylor, is most often associated with what is sometimes called the “magic” theory of religion. Both Tylor and Frazer have similar views on religion and its origin.
