Hannibal the Cannibal In the trilogy of books written by Thomas Harris, Hannibal Lecter is a favorite character that is often critiqued. People want to know how a man can act in the manner that he does. A very polished and educated man, Lecter is convicted of murdering and eating his victims. Though people enjoy his antics on screen and in the book, few realize his motives behind the killings. Something happened during the childhood of Hannibal Lecter that shaped the course of his life. During World War II, he and his sister were detained by deserters of the military in their barn. The deserters eventually ran out of food and took his sister from his arms and out into the forest. He listened as they murdered his sister with an axe
