“Eldorado” by Edgar Allen Poe is a ballad type poem. The stress pattern in each of the lines is in iambic form. The poem contains both dimeter, and trimeter. It comes in a pattern with two dimeter lines, followed by one-trimeter lines, in each of the four sestets. The rhyme scheme is AABCCB also in each of the sestets. There are only a few examples of alliteration in the poem: gaily, gallant; sunshine, shadow; singing, song; fell, found.
Background
Edgar Allan Poe wrote “Eldorado” in 1849, and was first published on April 21st of that same year. Poe was born in Boston, Mass, on January 19th, 1809, and died on October 7, 1849. Some people have criticized Poe for his works being negative and sad, but I think it was due
