The protagonist of Earl D. Shaw is his mother. The protagonist of Earl D. Shaw is his mother because she played a great role in his schooling and education, which lead to his invention. After the death of his father she moved them to Chicago, where he attended Crane Technical High School, where he was first introduced to physics. While at Crane he found the inspiration to pursue a career in physics. So all in all if it was not for his mother he would not have survived on his own and he would have never found Crane Technical High School or his inspiration. If he didn’t find his inspiration, we wouldn’t have first free electron laser. So it all comes back to his mother as his protagonist not just for his science but his life.
