I have always been intrigued by the story of John Smith and Pocahontas, and its interesting to see how the story is portrayed in different times. The public has come to believe in most cases; that the way the Disney version of Pocahontas tells the story is very factual when in reality it is a fictional story. Although the version by Disney was fictional, it has a positive portrayal. The film shows Native Americans in a better light than most stories; the Native Americans are seen as people... not as brutal savages. In Reading Beyond Words it was interesting to see how skewed the story is to reality.
