An atomic bomb is a bomb that obtains its destructive energy from chain reactions of fissionable materials. The first atomic bomb used against human targets was dropped at 8:15am, 6 August 1945 on Hiroshima, Japan. 3 days later, a second bomb was dropped at 11:02am over Nagasaki. Survivors of these atomic bombings are known in Japanese as hibakusha.
The method of making an atomic bomb was discovered by European scientists in 1938.
