A parent’s worst fear is losing their child. It is even harder to cope with when it is an unexpected and unpredictable death. “Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the sudden death of an infant under one year of age which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history”, (Willinger). Its cause has not yet been determined, but researchers believe the way a child sleeps, the age of the mother and exposure to second hand smoke are just a few of the risk factors that together may cause SIDS.
