When a team is brought together, it develops much like any relationship. Like most relationships, if the team is to be successful it requires more time, attention and focus. There are at least five stages to team or group development. Those five stages are forming, storming, norming, performing, and mourning or adjourning (Byer & Weston, 2004).
Forming is the process of learning about the team and what the tasks of the team will be. Forming also points to learning about the other members of the group; who they are and what they bring to the group.
