Euthanasia

A patient has been given the news he dreads. The cancer is no longer treatable. There is no medication or therapy to prevent the inevitable. Death is near. Before the end, his body will break down organ by organ. A feeding tube and a respirator will keep him alive as an IV delivers body and mind numbing pain medication. This patient is terminally ill. Before he dies, he will suffer unbearable agony. His family will stand by and watch, knowing there is nothing they can do. He would prefer to die a humane, gentle death. Unfortunately, it is not his choice to make.
Euthanasia should be an alternative when death is imminent and all other options have been exhausted. This would allow a person to die with peace and dignity. Life-support systems
