Saddam Hussein was born in a small village outside of Takrit in April of 1937. In his teenage years, he immersed himself in anti-British and anti-Western atmosphere of the day. At college in Baghdad, he joined up with the Baath Party.
After the monarchy overthrow in 1958, Saddam came up with a plan to kill Abdel-Karim Qassem, the prime minister. They discovered the plot, and he fled the country.
In 1963, the Baath party was in control of Baghdad; Saddam returned home and began jostling for as position of influence. During this time, Saddam married his cousin Sajide. They ended up having two sons and three daughters.
