Can a cut be deadly?

About a year ago, my cousin was playing basketball and got a small cut above his eye. When he jumped up to block a shot, a player from the opposite team fell on top of him and cut his eyelid. He didn’t think anything of it and he treated it as a normal cut. After a couple of days, he woke up with his eye swollen shut. The doctor treated it with an antibiotic, but on his return to the doctor, the swelling hadn’t gown down and his eye began to droop. The doctors ran tests, such as MRIs (magnetic resonance imagings) and CAT scans. Unfortunately for my cousin, the dosage of the antibiotic wasn’t strong enough for him to fight off, so my cousin was immediately admitted to the hospital.
