My Miracle (Cause and Effect)

My grandmother once told me that miracles happen when least expected. I never quite knew the significance in this statement until the birth of my miracle. Just twelve weeks into my pregnancy it was discovered that the baby would be born with a rare birth defect. An abnormal ultrasound showed the contents of our baby’s abdomen were on the outside of the abdominal cavity. This defect is called an omphalocele and occurs only once in 10,000 births.
Although I was initially devastated about this news, the early prognosis gave me plenty of time to research the condition. I searched the internet for pictures, stories and anything else that might prepare me for our son’s birth. I learned a lot about this condition over the next six mo
