Francisco Pizarro ventured into three expeditions during his lifetime. In the first expedition, he took part in the discovery of the Pacific Ocean in 1513 with Vasco Nunez de Balboa. This led to the claim of the Pacific Ocean for Spain and all expeditions and trade had to go through them when crossing the ocean. This gave much power to Spain to see what countries were trading with each other and who was exploring what lands. In his next two expeditions, he ventures to the west coast of South America. The first expedition was just to learn of the rumored civilization of the Inca Empire. Pizarro found great riches and returned home in order to receive the Crown’s blessing to take such a venture.
