After watching the movie “Frida” my opinion of her work is that she painted what she lived. Her artwork seems to be a biography of her life. The majority of her art work seems to be depicting the pain and suffering she lived, both self inflicted and her own fate. She painted with an honesty and brutality that a lot of painters do not have. She saw herself honestly and painted her heavy eyebrows as one single eyebrow, including her slight moustache in her self portraits, while expressing the pain she endured within her own reality.
I would consider her a folk art painter because she worked largely in the traditional Mexican style of small votive paintings called retablos, although her paintings were not of a religious nature and seemed
