My lesson entails how to write a sentence. It could be a very complicated and confusing process, especially for students who are new to the language. My target age is first grade, and what is so difficult with this age group is that they don’t understand complicated grammar yet. It probably would not be a good idea if I explained to them what a determiner, a noun, a verb, etc. is because that is too advanced for them.
I am teaching them basic 4-5 word sentences, which is very simple, but can be confusing. Students may not understand in what order words should go in, especially EL’s. When a child is learning a new language for the first time, they may be unsure how to say the words in the correct order.
