Have you ever looked past the treetops in the sky beyond the clouds and wondered what's out there? The first objects most people think of are the sun, the moon, and the stars. It's easy to overlook the other points of light in the night sky. These other points of light are planets. A planet is a body of matter that travels around a star in a fixed path called an orbit.
