Multiple Sclerosis actually means “many scars.” The words are used to describe a major disease of the nervous system, which literally becomes “scarred” and stops functioning properly. A easy and simple way to describe what goes on in Multiple Sclerosis is to compare the nerve that runs through out our bodies to electrical wiring, like the wiring in a house. The wires carry electrical signals, and is insulated by a plastic coating. Our nerves in our bodies conduct signals around the body, rather like the wire, and are also insulated. The insulating material Is called “Myelin”, and it is this that gets damaged in Multiple Sclerosis.
