True Altruism
At the beginning of World War 2 France was defeated by Germany, and the Vichy Regime was put in place to assist Hitler in his agenda of exterminating non-Aryans. Many French people rallied behind the Vichy Regime, while some obeyed due to consequences , but a remarkable town called La Chambon defied the policies and laws they saw as unjust and helped save thousand of Jews from death camps. In this section, La Chambon is examined to find the cause of the town wide participation in protecting the Jews, even though it risk their lives, and their village. The two sources used in this section are Philip Hallie’s book, Lest Innocent Blood Be Shed, and Vierre Suavage’s movie, Weapons of the Spirit.
