The largest group of immigrants that came to Canada during the immigration boom (1896-1913) were the Ukrainians. This report will tell us about the life and contributions of the Ukrainian immigrants in Canada.
First Ukrainians who immigrated to Canada were two farmers from Halychyna (Galicia), the then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Vasyl Eleniak and Ivan Pylypiw landed in Montreal on September 7, 1891 and proceeded to western Canada. They returned to Ukraine with reports about the vilni zemli (free lands), returned back to Canada with their families and settled in Alberta.
