The formation of one’s identity is a lifelong endeavor that is manipulated through various life changing events, culture or social statues, and the community that surrounds you. It recognizes the old, discovers the new, and is a synthesis of the two together. One of the most signifying factors of identity however; is ones appearance, whether it is internal or external. “Pygmalion” and “The Shape of Things” both discuss the issue of identity and how it is formed through social status and appearance, and how it can be easily manipulated to fit into ones ideal realm.
