One of the most wonderful and outstanding pieces of the American Design Collection located at the Dallas Museum of Art, to me, is the Gothic style bedstead which stands at twelve feet tall. It is a 19th century piece (1844) by the maker of Crawford Riddell from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This magnificent piece is from the Gothic Revival in America due to the renewed interest in European medieval architecture. This revival came from Queen Victoria in 1837 when she chose the Design for the Houses of Parliament, after their burning, to be of Gothic architecture.
