This case was about a reversed court decision against Ernesto Miranda. Ernesto Miranda was convicted of kidnapping and rape. Ernesto was identified in a police lineup, he was then questioned, he confessed, and he signed a written statement without being told that he had a right to a lawyer. His confession was then used in the trial to prove Miranda guilty.
Under Chief Justice Earl Warren, the court ruled that the prosecution may not use statements made by a person in police custody unless certain criteria had been met.
