Vaslav Nijinsky was born in Kiev on March 12, 1888 to dancers Eleonora Bereda and Thomas Nijinsky. Both of them were renowned dancers who owned their own dance company, which performed throughout the Russian empire. Thomas, his father, was the first to notice Valsav’s great elevation and gave Vaslav his first dancing lesson. Vaslav was the second son of his parents. His older brother was named Stanislav and his younger sister was named Bronislawa. Both of his siblings were dancers.
