Looking back on my childhood, I remember one day that remains as vivid as if it happened only yesterday. It was that same day that I learned an important lesson that not only helped to shape my character but quite possibly made me the person I am today. The year was 1990 and I was about 6 years old. I was still living in Russia with my mother, my father, my younger sister, Julia, and Tom, a cat that showed up on our door 5 year s earlier and had been living with us ever since.
