The poem that deals with an unusual incident is Glasgow 5th March 1971. I am going to discuss how the poet makes the incident interesting through his skilful techniques. The techniques I have chosen to write about are language, structure, imagery and setting.
The language in the poem helps capture the readers attention by using figurative language. The use of onomatopoeia helps us create the picture in our minds as he uses the words ‘shattered’ and ‘spurts‘, this makes us think of the sounds the writer is trying to create. He also tells us how the young couple are falling backwards into a shop window this catches attention as it is a dramatic scene.
