Mainstreaming: beneficial or harmful?

The world is composed of people with different skin colours,
different accents, different hairstyles, different religions,
different learning abilities, etc.. Though people are different,
they can work together successfully (kidshelp.org). Under this
belief, "mainstreaming" came into existence in the 1970's. This
is an educational method to include different kinds of learners
in the same classroom instead of separating them according to
their learning abilities (kidshelp.org). To be more specfic,
students with disabilities are to be integrated into students who
do not have disabilities. In the US, the Individual with
Disabilities Education Act requires that a continum of placement
