Judaism: The Mishnah
|
The Mishnah is the oral tradition of the Jews in written form. It deals with the six areas of Jewish law which are, agriculture, festivals, holy things, civil and criminal, family and purity and impurity. The Mishnah was once a significant part of Jewish life for all Jews, today however not all Jews feel that way.
Many Jews feel that the ideas in Mishnah are still as relevant today as when they were first written. Although other Jews say the text has no meaning in today’s society, Rabbi Jill Jacobs says,
“Though most Jews no longer live in an agricultural society, some of the Mishnaic laws related to agriculture remain directly relevant for contemporary urban and suburban lives.”
