Analyses of Sexism with the authors MacKinnon, Kimmel and Frye
Sexism, to me, before I read any of the essays from the anthology, “Oppression, Privilege, and Resistance,” was the negative influence of men towards women. It is when a man assumes you can’t do something, because you are a woman. It is when a woman is denied certain liberties that are guaranteed by the Constitution. It is discrimination based on gender, but it is so much more. It is a fight for dominance. It never occurred to me that I was actually oppressed, because oppression is extremely difficult to recognize, especially for a person privileged in other ways. Social roles are created for people by society, and in most societies they create a means to discriminate against.
