Labeling Perspective People's behaviors are shaped by social labels. The labeling perspective relies on ideals such as primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance is when someone commits a crime. Primary deviance is the first step and may either intentional or unintentional. Once an individual commits a crime they fall into secondary deviance. Secondary deviance is when someone is labeled as a criminal and acts in character with that label. This is when they have the chose to take the strait line or fall into a criminal career. How society reacts to these labels will determine what path an individual takes. Some of these causes that an individual takes to deviant behaviors are degrading in society, symbolic interaction, and stereot
