Labeling Perspective
People's behaviors are shaped by social labels. The labeling perspective relies on ideals such as primary and secondary deviance. Primary deviance is when someone commits a crime. Primary deviance is the first step and may either intentional or unintentional. Once an individual commits a crime they fall into secondary deviance. Secondary deviance is when someone is labeled as a criminal and acts in character with that label. This is when they have the chose to take the strait line or fall into a criminal career. How society reacts to these labels will determine what path an individual takes.
