Factors affecting gender inequality in South Africa

Introduction.
The promise of gender sensitive policies has been an important area of focus for the South African government. The reason for this resides in the fact that gender inequality (and the reasons for its existence in practically every area of politics in South Africa) springs from four complex and sometimes interchangeable areas. Historical, political, economic, and social factors help explain the nature of gender inequality as a whole, as well as at local government level.
This assignment attempts to discuss these four factors, and their contributions to the achieving or breaking down of, local attempts to achieve gender equality. Since the local government is the closest formal political structure to the people, it follows
