Although the Civil War abolished slavery, it led to one of the most turbulent times in American history, Reconstruction. Reconstruction started after the Civil War and lasted from 1865-1877, thought of as a way to bring peace to our country but instead brought more conflict to a nation already in turmoil. There were different plans put forth at this time by President Lincoln, President Johnson and Radicals in Congress that were attempts to deal with these problems but ended up became relative failures of the Reconstruction. They were not complete failures though; they did have success with our Constitution by putting in amendments that would help the United States with this problem in future years to come.
